Musical Journey

I love songs, i have too many favorites till i cant remember any of it unless i heard someone sing about it and my mind goes, ‘Aha! I love that songs too!’. I love songs because its lyric, music comes later. If the music catch my ear but the lyric don’t, I cross it off my list. That simple. I am not into any particular musician or era. A friend showed me his hipster collection and I search one that provide good lyric to put it in my playlist. Various twitter account that I follow say that 90’s music is the best, so I google best 90’s music to listen. Sometimes I listen to JB, Gaga or Black Eyed peas, in one occasion I really love ‘Work, Bitch’ to listen over when I did my assignment.

Glee introduces me to musical, thank God for that, I now have a chance to listen beautiful number from Wicked, West Side Story and Once. Glee basically introduces me to a lot of great song (and now the show is end, I literally don’t know where to ask for my musical reference). From glee, I know the great Stevie Wonder, I learn how to love MJ and understand what Rocky Horror is (so I am not confused when I read The Perks of being Wallflower). Again, thanks to glee for making a lot of great cover (if you don’t know please google Teenage Dream Darren Criss). I can’t stop writing about glee, before I told you my favorite numbers that this series have introduce me. I will just write it fast, okay. Landslide-Root Before Branches-Don’t Stop Believing (da!)-Don’t Dream It’s Over-Defying Gravity-Shake It Out.

B hates me watching Glee and I dislike him for that. I keep convince him that most of the songs that I know (and he likes some of it), I knew it from Glee. For him, the show is exaggerating, it doesn’t make sense for him. He said ‘how can you just sing in the middle of conversation?’ and I replied him’ the show meant to be hyperbolic, dude!’ Oh well, the thing is B just doesn’t like any song that is exaggerating in the tone, for him singing has the same value with storytelling, so one need to sing with all his heart rather than showing off how exact one person should hit the note. So can you guess, what are the songs that appear in his playlist? Its Tupac, MJ, John Legend, Mary J Blige, Journey and Wind, Fire Earth. That is all, Oh wait, he also like various rap songs that I can’t remember the name. B is into rap so much! (And he can rap well!) Without B, I am pretty sure I will not know Tupac and his great lyric. Once I listen to Tupac and I can’t close my mouth for 4 minutes because I am in awe reading his lyric. It’s still hard for me to listen to rap songs, but I guess rapping has the same idea with spoken poetry, so I began to listen to it as well. I wish one day I could write him a song that he can rap it out (is it rap it out?).

It was really hard for us to settle down and listen to a music together, but now finally we have settlement. I like his Tupac and John Legend, so guess what he likes from my music taste? ED SHEERAN, YO! He listens to Ed Sheeran and remember the lyrics more than I do. When I first found out that he likes it I just burst out laughing for not believing it!

Well, if I really really have to list down three of my most important songs, I think I will go with those who has historical related to me. Not historical related with the artists of course, but I will choose songs who is with me throughout my (love) life.

  1. Fix You – Coldplay

No need for explanation rite? Poetic lyric, romantic music. The lyric is so powerful, till it becomes one of my must heard song when I feel low. This song also convince me, teach me on trusting somebody. As broken soul, it was really hard for me to figure out my vulnerability and find out that I need help, it was so hard for me to break my wall that I had been built the entire time until B came. B doesn’t know Coldplay and never really listen to this song, but I know if he is desperately romantic person, he would give me this song to show what he was intending to do. What B has done to me is exactly the reality of this song, he comforts me, he guides me, he fixes me, he loves me.

  1. Someday-John Legend

I heard the song by watching Jonathan Ryes Myers Augustus Rush, but I like the song because B put it in his iPod. For me this is an ultimate song for long distance relationship people. B and I always sang this song when we were going to separate or thinking about we leave each other to go back to our country. We sang this song for almost three long years, while telling each other that the ‘someday’ is soon enough, we just have to be sabr (patient) and trust in God’s plan.  This was our anthem. Now, when we listen to the song, we laugh and look at each other eyes, find out that our someday is presence every day.

  1. Thinking Out Loud

I love this song, I love Ed Sheeran so much. After being a fan since 2012, it’s a long journey to have his super brand new song to replace Lego House in my heart. So when Thinking Out Loud came, I just become so freak about it till I just have one song in my recent playlist. I am so freak till I sang it every day include sing it to B via WhatsApp. Not until, I arrive in Germany I found out that B likes this song too. It’s great for me to have another anthem to replace Someday. I feel like this song is an everlasting love song, just like our love insha Allah.

Oh, it’s a thousand words post. (I write this for Writing 101 day 3! Oh my, I am sooooo late! I still have two more post to catch up before going steady in next week!)

Thanks for reading my mumbling, now tell me how is your musical journey?

Love Advices

It is not about how we live
But it’s about how we enjoy it
He said

Smile is important
Cause happiness make us stronger
He tells

We need to cherish the moment
Look for the better
Advice each other
Be patient, I said

He adds
I smile

But, you have to believe and trust
I will be your guard

I ask
He whispers

While I suppose to post my 6th poetry in day 6, here I am try to post my day 4th submission. The prompt was loveless love poetry. I have to make a poetry about love, without using the word love and avoid flowery and rainbowy scene. I made a lot of this actually. So my take on this prompt is love advices that we make throughout our 3 years conscious coupling. Hope you like it.

What is your advice for newlywed like me?

Review The Shadow of the Wind

Oh well, April is just starting but my plan didn’t go very well.

As a humble human nature, I would like to blame it on this book ‘The Shadow of the Wind’. Soon after I finish reading ‘A Love in Time of Cholera’, I directly jumped to the book rack and took Shadow of the Wind out. I first open the page of this book on Tuesday before I went to sleep, since then all I want to do is just finish that book. So, since my time occupied so much to read that book, i abandoned most of everything else. I didn’t do NAPOWRIMO, I haven’t finished my novel (3 more pages), I didn’t post anything in my blog, I even didn’t study German and I haven’t sent my application to Well, it’s been a while since a found i very good book so I guess I give myself a favor to enjoy it. I finished the book in the mid of Thursday after sacrifice two nights of less sleep. I feel so alive.

So here I give you review of the book that just took my time away in these few days. But first, let me thank B (my husband) who convinced me to read this book and cook breakfast and not complain about how messy the house is because all I want in these few days just to finish this book. Thank you, B.

B and I read books from Zafon.

My Rating: 9/10

Synopsis via Goodreads

Barcelona, 1945: A city slowly heals in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, and Daniel, an antiquarian book dealer’s son who mourns the loss of his mother, finds solace in a mysterious book entitled The Shadow of the Wind, by one Julián Carax. But when he sets out to find the author’s other works, he makes a shocking discovery: someone has been systematically destroying every copy of every book Carax has written. In fact, Daniel may have the last of Carax’s books in existence. Soon Daniel’s seemingly innocent quest opens a door into one of Barcelona’s darkest secrets–an epic story of murder, madness, and doomed love.

My Story

I always love book that tells story about a book and its author, for me it is so relate-able. I feel that any book worm ever wanted is to get a little bit spark of magic from the book we love the most. We want to take part in the story, we want the characters come to life, we want the book changes us in any possible way, we want to meet the author to thank and to beg for another book to come. And I can relate those feeling with the main character, Daniel Sempere. So when I start to know him, I feel like his journey become mine.

I thought the genre of this book is fantasy, the first pages remind me about the feeling I had when I read The Neverending Story and Inkheart. But as soon as I realize how authentic Post Civil War Barcelona was described in this book, I directly see how Zafon wants to bring magical realism for his reader. It evokes the memories of me reading Harry Potter for the first time, but instead of rushing to have a lunch in The Great Hall, I see myself strolling down Calle de Santa Ana and feel a gothic mystery waits for me to unravel.

What I like the most of this book is how Zafon able to show many kinds of profound relationship. Parent-kid, husband-wife, friendship, partnership, affairs, admiration and a lot of thing that is hard to render. I also like his allegory of shadow in this book. Whether there is no fix explanation on what is Zafon’s idea on the shadow, as a reader I see the shadow as fear. A symbol for something that hold someone’s to move on, a presence that often raise doubt and question.

Shadow of the Wind delivers well measured fantasy within reality for adults. It completes anyone who is hungry for suspense and the warmth of divine relationship. It answers those who are longing of refine childhood as well as an abstract adulthood. It teaches me so much about dream, love and perseverance.

If you don’t know what to read, if you plan to buy a book, buy this one, read this book, thank me later. 😀

Review Love in the Time of Cholera

Love in the Time of Cholera

Author: Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Genre: Fiction

Pages: 434

Publisher: Vintage Books

My Rating: 6,5/10

My reading time: 4 weeks!

Summary via Goodreads

In their youth, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza fall passionately in love. When Fermina eventually chooses to marry a wealthy, well-born doctor, Florentino is devastated, but he is a romantic. As he rises in his business career he whiles away the years in 622 affairs–yet he reserves his heart for Fermina. Her husband dies at last, and Florentino purposefully attends the funeral. Fifty years, nine months, and four days after he first declared his love for Fermina, he will do so again.

My story

The reason I bought this book is because I stumbled upon A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, a short story from Marquez that teaches me the power of twist ending in a story. After a few delay, I finally decided to buy one of his book, I just typed his name in Amazon and see A Love in Time of Cholera as the first suggestion. Without checking the review in Goodreads, I directly pressed the button to buy. I thought, a very well-known novel of a Nobel Prize winner could never go wrong.

But then i was wrong. I give this book 6/10 for the sake of beautiful writing. Five points for the classic writing, one for the great setting and half point for the wicked plot. Who doesn’t admire Marquez for his style of writing? His perfect diction and strong tone of voices (through the narrative!) in this novel are things that make this novel alive. I also can’t put this novel away (even though I often tired reading this novel because nothing seems to happen after hundreds of pages) because of the wicked plot was arranged smartly. Not to mention, I can witness the beautiful Caribbean Sea for half of century.

The irony is, I dislike this novel because of the wickedness itself. I do not agree that the love of Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza is being potrayed as a true love! I mean 622 affairs, come on! Florentino Ariza indeed waits for Fermina Daza’s love for half of century, but is that true love? Not for me. Within those 622 affairs, there are also disturbing stories that delivered impeccable. And those 622 affairs somehow could not erase Florentino’s innocence figure, so he could still be the hero for Fermina Daza in her old days.

I read this novel hoping to meet the true meaning of love in the old times when people have to struggle for a plague. But then I didn’t see anyone really suffer from Cholera, I didn’t feel the plague was around and ruin everybody’s life and love. If this novel is really about Cholera, the story should be centered in Dr. Juvenal Urbino’s life(Fermina Daza’s husband). The story should be about how he tempered his wife with his true love and finding the cure for the cholera.

If you want to read this book because the sake of Gabriel Garcia Marquez or you want to see how is life in the time cholera, it is better for you to not read this, because you might not really amuse with what you read. I, myself will continue my book journey with Marquez’ short stories and his great novel One Hundred Years of Solitude.

So, what is your impression after reading my review? Have you read this book or another Marquez’ works?

The Faults In Foul Soul

I stared,  I glared to the love that float

I listened for its swing

I demanded for it to shift

But i did nothing

the beauty was too overwhelming

until passive was active

delution made reaction that delete any realization

senseless and brainless, verily

they said to be or not to be

infact medieval quotes become irrelevant

for narsisstic mind on twentieth century

now is to be and always be

love is irresistable

as for heart is unmanageable

broken heart impose for trivial challange

commitment is presumed to keep balance

Obvious, the faults are in the sullied soul

that guilty for tedious dreams

that resist to stop sleeping in foul

to wake up and smell roses

Love Can Worry You easily

When thunders on with heavy rain fall

Wind thrust without its breeze

An empty side of this sofa

Calling for warm and peace

Of heart that is made from scratch

mind and ego are not match

Undergo yearns throughout compassions

love always suffers as much as love sparkles

Weary for love is indeed delicacy

Waiting for knock on door, Staring at the phone

Loud heart beat that always singing

Hoping and praying for ‘Okay’ is always around

I am Sorry, My Palestine

Broke the glass
Filled water in
Locked the mess
Found reflection within

Skipping morning
Consoling solitude
Mind wondering, wandering
A News beg for self gratitude

For a heart that tired to weep
Compare with a body never go down for sleep
One serenade for broken heart story
The other requiem for dreams of humanity

Furious whim can’t be juxtaposed with blood that shared
One dollar can’t save any kiddo life
Yet, a heart is forfeit
Drop the subject, forget the living lifes

Broken glass, scattered water
Lament for a nonchalant
Wain for powerlessness
Mind wondering, wandering, then be grateful

Screaming love cant be heard over
Praying safety remain on hold
Hugging become unexplicable

For a least trial though
I spell my tears out
I put my sorrow into words
I clarify my love

To be done on a blog
Someday you have chance to read it
You can reach me
my love, my hugs, my pray
and you feel a little bit happy
cause you know you are with me
you are with the world.
